Hydroseeding or hydro mulching, as it is sometimes known, is a method of establishing new turf or repairing existing turf. The process is started by mixing water, seed, fertilizer, and mulch in a tank to form a slurry and spraying on an area prepared for seeding. The most efficient mulch to use is, of course, cellulose fiber mulch (recycled newsprint). Cellulose fiber mulch wraps around the seed to provide protection during the germination period. Cellulose fiber mulch usually contains green dye for a more pleasing appearance. A guar gum additive known as tackifier can be added to provide stability to the protective coating for the seed, allowing germination. Hydro Terra tackifier also contains polymers to provide moisture during the germination process.

In addition to lawn care or landscaping, the hydroseeding method is also useful in dust control and prevention of soil erosion.

Hydro Terra hydroseeders accomplish the mixing proceedure quickly and efficiently with its vortex mixing assembly. This mixing is done without moving parts that can rust and corrode and require periodic maintenance. At the same time of the vortex mixing there is an upper mixing assembly that catches all dry material that is fed into the tank allowing for quick agitation and mixing. In less than one minute the tank has inverted the slurry material inside the tank.

A tower and cannon assembly is also available and is very useful in connection with our large 1000 gallon units.

All of Hydro Terra’s hydro seeding equipment feature commercial cast iron pumps allowing more gallons per minute to move more material inside the tank for faster agitation. The vortex mixing design of the Hydro Terra unit allows four times the amount of agitation thus allowing a much quicker mix time than that of our competitors. Hydro Terra's cast iron pumps are made in the USA and starter granular fertilizer may be used with no damage to the pump.

We find that when you fill the tank 3/4 full of water, with the engine running at full agitation and using low density cellulose fiber mulch, the mixing time is 15 minutes. The batch will consist of seed, starter fertilizer, tackifier, and hydro mulch.

An added feature unique to Hydro Terra is our brine generator. This unit fits in the fill well of any Hydro Terra unit and can produce brine for de-icing using common water softener rock salt. The brine can then be sprayed on to parking lots and sidewalks with Hydro Terra's verticle applicator bar or by using a hand sprayer. If used before the storm, it is an effective method of anti-icing.

The Hydro Terra facility is located in Kansas and Hydro Terra units have been in service more than 15 years. Our customers have prospered with their use.

Benefits of Hydro Terra System

Hydro Terra hydroseeders are equipped with quick disconnect camlock fittings allowing all hoses to be quickly uncoupled and flushed with a garden hose.

Hydro Terra seeders are equipped with bale trays (on 200 gallon models and larger) and are mounted on custom made heavy duty channel iron skids and the tank rests on an iron saddle for strength and stability when filled with material.

Hydro Terra’s nozzle agitation system is unique to Hydro Terra machines. This system completely eliminates the need for mechanical parts and paddles inside the machine. A cyclone effect is achieved inside the tank and the mulch, fertilizer, seed, and water are quickly and thoroughly mixed together for efficient spraying.

In addition to seeding, Hydro Terra systems may be used for watering dry areas, applying mulch only, applying nutrients (such as fertilizer) and wash-down of equipment and paved areas.
